History of the Halifax Herald
The Chronicle Herald is based out of Halifax Nova Scotia in Canada and is the top selling publication in the Atlantic Provinces. Furthermore, it is the 15th highest selling Canadian newspaper in Canada with a circulation of over 770,000. The paper is also the largest independently owned newspaper in Canada, owned by the Dennis family.

The Herald was first founded in 1875 as The Morning Herald and was an immediate success. The main competitor for the Herald was the Chronicle. However, in 1949 the two newspapers joined to become the Herald-Chronicle. In 2003, Graham Dennis purchased the state of the art WIFAG printing press, the only one of its kind in Canada and only three in North America.

William Dennis founded the newspaper back in 1875. When he passed away he passed the newspaper to his nephew, William Henry Dennis. William Henry then passed it to his son, Graham Dennis who currently owns the successful magazine company.

In 2008 the Chronicle Herald was named Canada’s Top 100 Employers by MediaCorp Canada Inc.
